Mushrom cultivation by Goyash Adivasi Farmer Group

Gayash  Adivasi Farmer Group is formed by Uttoran project. This group consists of 19 farmers from Gayash village  in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. This group encourages farmers to practice new and latest techniques for agriculture and use organic manure that gives maximum yield. Uttoran project provides different training and method that enhances  increase farmers income and standard of living.

     Social Welfare Institute organized a training for mushroom cultivation for Gayash  Adivasi Farmer group. Mr. Arjun Soren -Raniganj GP mushroom unit leader, gave them training and theoretical knowledge. Farmers were too excited and gave their full effort to learn the mushroom cultivation. They made 22 cylinder (bag) in that training. Everyday they observed and nourished it. After 24 days of packaging  tiny mushrooms were seen outside the packet. The farmers were very happy. After 32 days of care and patience mushroom was ready to be plucked and to be sold within village. They earn Rs. 2450/- from selling the mushroom.

    After the completion of the training, each farmer was eager to plant his own mushroom. They started the process for mushroom cultivation. They  found it is more profitable  as it could generate daily income apart from other source of income without any help .

    Seeing their success nearby villagers also started cultivating the mushrooms.

CASE STORY – 01 Intercropping

The village of Ganjana is situated in Uttar Dinajpur District of Karandighi Block. In this village four people name Kumed Singh, Manaj Singh, Amrit Singh and Budhan Singh are living near their 4 acre land. They cultivated one time of crop paddy and they have got minimum of income.
They participated one of the meeting on regarding WADI and they come to knew that there is big chance to income on WADI field. SWI make them to understand the benefit of WADI Project which is funded by NABARD, West Bengal. They became inspire in this project. They were included 10% SC community project which is sanctioned for SC community.

In 2017 – 2018 July they have planted altogether 80 mango trees, 70 guava trees and 300 border plants of Mehuguni . They work together in this WADI field .In these field they have water resource facility for irrigation. Every day they were coming for nourished the plant .The plants are becoming very good health and they are very carefully of the plant.

They invest Rs.20000/- for cultivating intercrop .In these field they cultivated chilli ,patato, raddish, bitter nelon, carrots, jhinga, cabbage, ladies finger, couli flower and small jute for vegetable . They work hard in this field and they are busy with plants and crop. They plant man dap system cultivation and they cultivate cowpea on this mandap. In alternative way they cultivated whole year in this field and they sale the vegetable and they get good profit from this. Elder brother Kumed Singh give a quantitative measures on production of crop.

02 – Dudum Besra

Dudum Besra is the farmer of Majhok village. He planted in one acre land in fruit orchard. He is very much interest in cultivation of vegetable. He cultivates cauliflower in his fruit orchard. He prepared the seed bed according to land. He has few lands very low and few land labels is straight. He put organic manure mainly cow dung in his field. For that all vegetable seller are like his vegetable. Every day some vegetable seller comes and buys his organic vegetable. Every week he sale the vegetable in different part of state like Assam, Gouhati , Darjeeling. Every year he earn average Rs.150000/- (One lakh fifty thousand) from his vegetable.

03. Poultry farm

Milon Kisku is a marginal farmer of Lahutara village of Karandighi block. He has five members in the family. It was very difficult for him to maintain the family economically.
He is a Wadi beneficiary and planted 40 guava and 35 mangos and 100 border plant in his one acre of land in the year 2017-18. He attends all the meeting and training wadi provides to the beneficiary. He has attended training on poultry farm, fishery, goat farm etc. After receiving the training he has taken loan Rs. 150000/- from Axis bank and started a poultry farm with 2000 chicken in his land last year. He has sold three times of Rs.175000/- He also has a small pond where he cultivated high breed cat fish along with makhna. He sold cat fish of Rs. 25000/- and makhna of Rs. 20000/-.
He has improved his livelihood earnings and has sufficient money to invest for family. Now he is example to the other marginal farmers. The other farmers come to see and learn how he manages with all three together.

04. Narendaranath Singha

Narendaranath Singh is a farmer of Saidpur village of Uttar Dinajpur District under Karandigh Block. He is the beneficiary of WADI Project. He attend several time of meeting and training organized by WADI project .He planted 40 mango trees and 35 guava trees and 75 border plant of mehuguni and gamer trees. He cultivates intercropping seed of lalsak, ladisfinger, coriander etc.
He is a hard worker in field area. He give effort for the plant nourished and his plant was grown healthy. He cultivated every year pointed guard .From this vegetable he earn average Rs.50000/- per annum. He cultivates the vegetable in advance. So he can get more profit from the vegetable.

05: SHG – sale of jewellery Production:

Balia village is situated in Uttar Dianjpur District of Karandighi Block. It is very backward village in Uttar Dinajpur district. In this village there was no business facility, no factory and no income sources. There was no proper way to inter the village. People of this village were very simple and they like to live very silently. In 2015 this village was listed as a target area of TDF Project. Many agriculture training and meeting was organised in this village. In 2021 month of August organised a oxidise jewellery training for self help group . In this area for village women jewellery demand is very high. Women went to city for bye jewellery ornaments to use in occasion. Sixty women was participate in three days training .They also recognised that how pretty ,fresh and novel look a woman when she wear a oxidise jewellery. They acknowledged the importance of jewellery making and sold. They stated the making jewellery in different design. They used their technique and made wonderful design in oxidise jewellery. They sold the product in local market and big stationery shop. The SHG group earn from these product rupees thirty five thousand. Now many women are following them and they also started to make jewellery in their home and started to sold.

06: Binod Murmu – Benefit from brinjal

Binod Murmu lived in a small village of Balia, situated in Uttar Dinajpur District. He is a TDF project beneficiaries .He is marginal farmer. Binod have 1.5 acre of land.. Every year he earn from intercropping approximate fifty thousand (50000/-). Last year also he cultivates brinjal in one acre land. He got twenty four thousand (24000/-) from brinjal. He is a energetic farmer in this area. Many farmers come to get suggestion and idea from him.

07: Benefit from mango fruit:

Kesab Karmaker is a beneficiary of TDF project. In 2015 he enlists his name in the project. In one acre land he has forty mango plant and thirty five guava plant. He attained the training and meeting regularly. He nourished the plant regularly, added manure and pesticide while it’s needed. He got all facilities of the orchard plantation. He knew the importance of the orchard based farm. He got knowledge that mangoes are the most common fruit on the land and it is delicious, sweet smelling fruit of an evergreen. Mango contains low calorie, which is high in fibre and the source of vitamin A and C. It also considers iron, calcium, zinc and vitamin C. On realizing the many benefits of mango he careful it like a small baby. In all weather he cares off it. After four year the small plant is become fruiting tree. The mango tree is the primary income source in his family. He got approx one thousand two hundred (1200) kg mango in every year which come in amount Rs. Twenty four thousand rupees (24000/-).He thankful to organisation of Social Welfare Institute.
